Greetings! It’s A13MW. I am a Bitcoin Artist and Indie Animator. This post is long overdue. The CAMP SPRITELY postcard and coaster that I got from Christine has been on my coffee table since my return from DWeb Camp in 2024! I am here to give thanks to Christine for inspiring me with her ZAP Animation of our fearless leader jumping up and down under the red wood trees…
Christine, you and your work sure lit a fire under my butt at DWeb 24. It took me another year to get down to work and do my first ZAP Animation called HODL/HODL. A tiny loop set in Jamaica. This year I finished the first of a series of shorts, a short 2D, hand drawn animation set in South Africa. I am pleased to announce that this short has been selected at 9 film festivals around the world and two days ago I was informed that I won an Best Short Animation at an International Film Festival in India, the birth place of Buddha.
My short, 2D, hand drawn, bespoke 11 min, 49 sec piece is called “Crying Baby, Dancing Bee.” I just returned from the LIghtbox Expo in LA and sat through a 3 hour awards show for the Concept Artists in Hollywood last Saturday evening.
Right about now, I am feeling like I am on stage, dressed my best, saying thanks to those who inspired me. I will never forget when I came up to you after you presented your animation on the screen in the red woods. I said something like “Wow, thanks, I love your work, I used to animate and should get back to it…” To which Christine replied: “Why don’t you make something for next year to show D web Camp?”
I took what you said to heart, Christine. I signed up for NOSTR — cuz of Rabble and then disappeared down the BTC Rabbit hole. Something magical happened. A whole new world with a gorgeous vista opened up before me. Suddenly I had a story to tell about Love, Sex, Drugs and Money, which, btw, was the original title for that old film called the African Bitcoin Queen. As an indie animator on a privacy first network like Nostr, I could do it my own way, on my own time and in my own terms and sometimes even get zapped by folks…
